Formerly a convent church of the Augustinian Canons Regular, the Parish Church of Rottenbuch is situated on the steep Ammer river bank. Founded in 1073 it was the most important monastery of the Canons Regular in Germany until it was secularized in 1803. The frescoes belong to the best works of Matthäus Günther, one of Germany's most important rococo painters. The opulent stucco work seems to overshadow all other architectural forms, realising the concept of the perefct Bavarian rococo church.
